IECOB – Europe and the Balkans International Network, Italy

The Europe and the Balkans International Network can rely on a unique political, economic and social network of experts and institutes that provide it with unprecedented high quality expertise in different domains, from politics to economics, from agricultural to environmental issues, from history to law, from social and cultural studies to languages, for the needs of research, information and training regarding Central, Eastern, and Balkan Europe.

The Institute, merged with the Alma Mater-University of Bologna and centre’s researchers, also participates in educational processes. The Institute developed several projects with the contribution of the European Commission, among which can be mentioned: Mediterranean Voices: Oral History and Cultural Practice in Mediterranean cities (EuroMed Heritage II – B7-4100), Functional Borders and Sustainable Security: Integrating the Balkans in the European Union – IBEU (V Programme Research Framework HPSE-CT-2002-00131), EU And New Neighbours: In Search Of A New Relationship (Jean Monnet Action 2006-2064/001-001), A European Space of Justice (Tempus IB JEP 16061-2001), Training in Foreign Policy for Diplomats from Candidate Countries of Central and Eastern Europe (DG RELEX), Joint University Structures at the city of Mostar: Preliminary establishment of two new facilities (Tempus SCM N. C018A04), Cultural Tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Tempus IB JEP15030-2000). Moreover, the first key person involved in the project, Prof. Stefano Bianchini, is the director of the two-years Interdisciplinary Master In East European Studies (MIREES). MIREES is a master degree organised in collaboration with leading Eastern European Universities, which is attended by students from all around the world.
